If one were to judge progress merely by viewing these blogs, one might conclude that not much is happening. Actually, things are just really hectic behind the scenes. For example, the association recently incorporated as a nonprofit corporation. I am one of the three initial board members, just to help get things started. Volunteers are hard at work on the bylaws, the federal exemption application, and the upcoming conference. I've been helping to create the new membership and conference registration systems that will be up on this site in the next few days. So, it's just busy busy busy! But things are moving forward. Okay, I have to get back to the gears and wires of the registration system....

Firsts present us with unique and truly special moments. Firsts, such as first steps, first words and first proms, create truly defining moments in our lives that will never be forgotten. AVRM’s first steps as a new organization include the first conference and the first memberships. The conference, to be held in Dallas, TX on October 3-5, 2007, offers participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning experiences with some of the top trainers in the United States. This groundbreaking conference sets the tone for the quality professional development experiences the new association offers volunteer resources managers. Space is limited so register now for this “don’t miss” event. Early registration is open until September 3, 2 ... Read More »

What a wonderful blog to write! We are going to hold our very first Annual Conference this October. BUILDING BRIDGES TO OUR FUTURE is the theme and the Bridges we refer to are our own professional development, technology and information. While this will not be a full national conference agenda it will be a great training opportunity and a chance to Celebrate AVRM! The dates will be October 3rd through the 5th and we will be in Dallas, Texas. Our Planning Team is just coming together and getting started. When I asked for those who would like to help plan I was overwhelmed with how quickly people stepped up and their enthusiasm is contagious. There will soon be a special page on our website that is devoted to just the Conference. As we plan and know more details we will be posting them to the Conference page. In the meantime, if you have questions, comments or would like to join the P ... Read More »

The Leadership Team is proud to announce that the Association of Volunteer Resources Management (AVRM) incorporated on March 5, 2007. The first step establishes the new organization as a legal corporation. The filing for IRS tax exemption as a nonprofit organization will be the next step the new organization takes. The Leadership Team will continue to work as the new organization begins to set up the processes necessary for normal business operations. The Leadership Team and the Taskforce of VRM Roundtable/AVRM continue to build dynamic new programming, partnerships and conferences that will enlighten, educate and foster the growth and sustainability of the profession as a whole. The primary goals of a new association will be to support and serve the professionals who work in volunteer resources management (VRM) through advocacy, educational programming and the provision of resources that meet the needs of the diverse field of VRM. Just a reminder to vote your preference in the Conference Poll. Your input is very important. The result of this poll will be to designate the month in which the annual conference will be held. Currently October leads with 21%, May follows with 14% and September is third with 12%. This is also a great time for local VRM groups to discuss if you would like to host a conference in your city. There will be an RFP process with the Taskforce Leadership Team making the final decisions on the first three conferences. There after the Board of Directors will take this responsibility. We are working on three conferences at once in order to set the appropriate time line in place. The city hosting the third annual conference will have the full amount of time that will be our practice in the future. The city hosting the second annual conference will have shorter, but adequate, amount of ... Read More »
