VRM Roundtable Task Force Distribution in the United States

What's in a Name?

The voting closed at midnight PST on August 11, 2006.  The Communications/PR Team has selected the name for the new association: Association of Volunteer Resources Management (ARVM)!

Methodology:

In keeping with the open, inclusive and transparent nature of this project, the Communications/PR Team developed a list of potential names for the new organization.  From the survey conducted by the Survey Working Group, the Team drew from the words that ranked the highest from the responses to the survey.  Through the course of the Team’s conversations, a few additional words were included.  After this list was generated, the Team brainstormed 25 potential names of the new association and voted for each Team member’s personal top three preferred organizational names.  These names are now presented to the Task Force and Roundtable professional community to garner input.

You may view the results of the survey.

What is VRM Roundtable?

VRM Roundtable

VRM Roundtable is a volunteer project that is dedicated to the launch of the Association of Volunteer Resources Management. It is a fully transparent, democratically governed project with a passion for leading the profession of volunteer resources management into a bright new future.

The project's core consists of volunteers on the several Task Force Teams (see the list to the left). Each team selects a Team Leader, who in turn serves on the Leadership Team, the governing body of the project. The Leadership Team selects a Leadership Team Leader to speak for the project.

Informing the Task Force is a body of hundreds of colleagues who participate on the public email-based discussion list, VRM-ROUNDTABLE. In addtion, DOVIAs, chapters and similar organizations thorughout the United States have been active in supporting the project.

VRM Roundtable Honors Stephen Nill

On November 9, 2006, following Stephen Nill’s keynote address to the American Association of Grant Professionals, Celeste Sauls-Marks, Leadership Team Leader, surprised Stephen Nill by awarding him a certificate of appreciation and a lifetime membership in the new Association for Volunteer Resources Management. It was his 50th birthday. The recognition was for his technological contributions to the VRM Roundtable. Text of Ms. Sauls-Marks comments are below:

“I met Steve 249 days ago on my birthday, March 5th. Since that time, he has been a little busy and I wanted to share with you why you may not have been able to get of a hold of him so easily in recent months. I am Celeste Sauls-Marks of the VRM Roundtable. This is the project to build the new national association for volunteer resources management called the Association of Volunteer Resources Management.

When I met Steve through a mutual friend, I had a vision for a dynamic new organization that could better serve VRMs and support them in their work. Steve grabbed that vision and brought forward the technology to put that vision into action. Together, we started a national grassroots movement that, through the work of the Task Force and the Leadership Team, has fundamentally changed the way that field of VRM operates and views itself as professionals.

VRM Roundtable’s format of organizational transparency, diversity of thought and experience, coupled with the inclusion of all who want to participate is building that dynamic new organization I dreamt of in Dallas 249 days ago.

While, at times, it has been a difficult journey, we have emerged and are now bringing major stakeholders to the table.

The Leadership Team and I recognize that without your assistance, Steve, VRMs in cities throughout this country would not be able to receive professional development services. So I am here to convey the deep appreciation of the 7,200 members of the VRM Roundtable and award you with a lifetime membership.”
